history
Valarie Rose Russo was born on October 13th, 1977, in the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts, as the product of two loving college sweethearts. Andy Russo and Michelle Rose had met at Boston College in 1972, as brand new freshman. Andy was originally from Washington D.C., the son of a mechanic and a housewife, on scholarship for basketball. A tall, strong type of boy, he had fallen in love with the raven haired Michelle from the second he laid eyes on her. But she was feisty, and was always fluttering around campus talking to anyone and everyone that would listen. She was an activist, someone that was very passionate and often doing things before she thought about them, jumping to the aid of someone in need, signing and creating petitions and picketing for the latest cause. She was a partier, a beautiful girl with bright blue eyes, but Andy was too shy to talk to her. Finally, she caught him looking at her one night at a party, and Michelle went up to him. Instant connection, and three years later, in September of 1976, the two were getting married.

Michelle had been born and raised from Boston, and refused to leave her beloved city, and her Red Sox, of course. The most that she and Andy had in common was their love for sports. Andy had graduated from Boston College as an engineer, and Michelle had gotten a teaching degree, passing her exam and becoming a high school history teacher. They got married just after they both graduated college, and moved into an apartment above an elderly couple just blocks from where Michelle had grown up. They started their jobs as soon as they got them, and they also started on their family. And that was when their first and only daughter was born.

Valarie (the name picked just out of random) Rose (given an appropriate middle name after her mothers maiden name) was born during an early October snowstorm, in the middle of the night late October 13th. There was no doubt that she was her mother's child, right from the start. A beautiful little baby, she had dark hair, bright blue eyes, and pale skin; she might as well had been Michelle's clone. She was a loud, fussy baby when they brought her home from the hospital, and she spent many weeks crying through the night. Eventually, though, the little girl grew out of it, and started to become a very happy baby, with a smile on her face to everyone that was around. As she grew older, and began to walk and talk, her parents realized that she was going to be a feisty little one. She formed a personality by the age of five, and she was one tough cookie. Michelle adored it. She didn't force her little girl to wear dresses and bows in her hair and go to dance class like most of the other mothers did with their daughters. If Val, as she was fondly known by her family, wanted to wear shorts and run around and get dirty, then so be it.

The only time Valarie had ever gone to Washington D.C. was when she was six years old. Her parents were very busy with work, and most of the time Valarie was in school or at the baby sitters while they were at work, so they didn't have much time to travel back down to where Andy grew up. But the one time they had to was when his mother had passed away from a heart attack. They were down for a week, the first vacation they had taken, though it wasn't had much of a vacation, after all. She hadn't seen much of her Grandfather growing up, but when she saw him crying, Val had crawled into his lap and wrapped her little arms around him. Right then, she knew that she adored the man, and that he loved her. He tried to make as many trips up to Boston after the loss of his wife, but it was still a far drive, and he was still working as a mechanic, even at his age.

In elementary school, Valarie was still as feisty as ever. She was a bit of a chatterbox, and she talked to anyone that would listen. She made friends easily, especially with boys. Some of the girls became intimidated by her as the years went on, and she began playing sports rather than hanging out with them. She played with the boys, fought with the boys, and got dirty when she wanted to. Val was a smart girl, but she loved being outside. Homework wasn't her favorite, she hated being cooped up inside, and was frequently attempting to use her big blue eyes to get herself out of homework and being able to get outside and play. And she played everything. Soccer, baseball, softball, football, all sorts of street and playground games. Val always had a skinned knee, or band aids somewhere on her skin, but she loved it. And that girl had more bruises, stitches, twisted limbs and broken bones by the time she was ten years old.

In 1987, though, at the age of ten, Valarie's life was changed forever. In March of that year, Michelle started to get bad headaches frequently, even some blinding migraines, but she didn't pay much attention to it. They went away for a bit, but were still posing a problem well into April, and even May. And then one day, on May 27th, 1987, Michelle dropped in the middle of her classes. They rushed her to the hospital, and pronounced her dead at a little bit past three in the afternoon. Andy was called at work, and Valarie was still in school. When she went to go on the bus home, her mothers sister was waiting for her, with tears rolling down her face. She brought her home with her, only to tell her that her mother had died. Later Val would be told that she died from a brain aneurysm, but that wasn't something a ten year old could understand.

After the funeral and everything was finalized, Andy decided that he couldn't bear to stay in Boston anymore. That had always been Michelle's home, but it wasn't home without her there anymore. He was struggling taking care of a daughter during his time of grieving, and his sister-in-law had five kids and a job, and couldn't help as much. So he decided to pack up his things and move back to Washington D.C., the place he had grown up in. His father lived alone in his old home, and there was a place for him and Valarie. In addition, Gary (his father) had recently retired, and would be able to be home for Val when she needed.

And so they moved to D.C. After a few months of feeling lost and being very quiet, and her father still grieving, she started to settle in. Andy got a job as an engineer once again, and Valarie started school. It took her a little bit longer to go back to the old Val, but once her grandfather got her involved in things in the city, like a basketball team during the winter, a softball team during the spring, and soccer during the summer and fall, she started to make friends. She formed a tight knit group of friend’s right from junior year and moved into high school. They were all into sports and not into the normal girl things and they meshed well. As Val grew up, so did her body. She had always been a tall, lanky girl, but she started to fill out more once she got into her late teens. Boys were noticing her more now that she took her hair out of a ponytail and actually did it, and that she would wear girly clothes rather than basketball shorts. She was still a tomboy, though; there was no way around it. Her father and Grandfather had raised her as one of the boys. She knew all about sports, and she would burp with the best, and was always eating steak and potatoes and started to get a taste for beer (once she got older). But she was starting to get a taste of the wild side.

Valarie graduated high school 1995 with decent enough grades and a good GPA to get into a local college. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do yet, and she wasn't too interested in playing any sports professionally or on a university level. She opted to just take a few core classes, get some credits, and figure out what she wanted to do. Staying at home with her father and grandfather, she commuted to classes for two years, trying to figure out what she wanted to do. Eventually, on a whim, Val checked out the American Dental Education Association, and decided to give it a try. She enrolled herself into the dental assisting program, and soon found that she enjoyed the work and that it was the field she wanted to go into.

In the summer of 1999, when she was twenty-two years old, was when she met Anderson Teller, a man a little older than her, and in the navy. A group of her friends decided to head out to the Andrews Air force Base to meet guys, which was a habit of theirs. Val went along, of course, because she was always up for some fun, and that was where she met the other man, who was known as Telly. She was amused by him, and after having a conversation over drinks, the two exchanged numbers, and started dating for a little while. He was back and forth, though, and once Val started dental school again for the fall and he was going to get deployed, their relationship suffered a bit. They decided to break up, Val not really having the patience to deal with a long distance relationship. It only lasted a few months.

Once Val finished dental school, she got a job at the Washington Center for Dentistry as one of the assistants, starting off at a beginner’s salary in 2001. Still living with her father and grandfather, she worked her hardest to be able to move out and live on her own, which she eventually did. It was a struggle, but Val had always been a very independent girl. It was the summer of 2002 when her life changed, once again. She was working as an assistant to one of the doctors during a root canal on one of their patients, a man named Tyler Vliet. He was handsome, she noticed this right away, and apparently very confident. When they were finished with their procedure, he assured her that he was okay to stand up and walk out on his own. Keeping a close eye on him, Valarie watched as he stood up, and proceeded to topple over onto her. She caught him, just before they were about to hit the ground, and she wasn't mad, just very amused. It took a lot for Val to get angry. Tyler apologized profusely, insisting that he take her out to dinner to make up for it. She was reluctant at first, because he was a patient and she knew that she most likely wasn't supposed to be accepting a date, even if it was to apologize for nearly squashing her, but she couldn't resist. Maybe it was his charm, or maybe it was because he was asking her out through half of a numb mouth, but she accepted.

Val was swept off of her feet immediately by Tyler. Their dinner date became a second, which became a third and a first kiss, which eventually became a very serious relationship for both of them. Val was head over heels for him. He was five years older than her and a chauffer, but he took care of her, he loved her, and she loved him. They dated for about six months, and then on December 25th, at the end of the Christmas day, they were laying together in bed. It had been a busy day, with family and presents, and Tyler jokingly suggested that he should have bought Valarie an engagement ring. Val looked him right in the eye--always the bold one--and told him that he should have, and she would have said yes. Finally realizing that maybe they were both serious about this, they decided to get married. And not wait for it; they decided to get married just a few weeks after, in January.

And in a small ceremony in front of close friends and family, and Val being given away by both her father and Grandfather, Tyler and Valarie were married. She became Mrs. Tyler Vliet, and they moved in together into Tyler's home (she had been practically living there, anyway). Many people speculated that there had been a reason for the quick wedding, and that fire was only fueled when Val announced, only a month after they married, that she was pregnant. But the baby hadn't been the reason at all; Val discovered she was pregnant just weeks after their early January wedding. Apparently, this was a wedding night baby, though of course she and Tyler hadn't waited until marriage to consummate their relationship. But Val and Tyler were both thrilled about this. They had always wanted to be parents, and Val had wanted a baby, especially one with Tyler. They were happy to finally start their family, and their first child was only the beginning.

September 10th, 2003, Eden Grace Vliet was born, in a local hospital, after quite a few hours. She was a beautiful little dark haired girl, and Val fell in love with her right away. It was bitter sweet for her, knowing that she had grown up without a mother, not at her mothers fault, of course. She wanted to be a wonderful mother to this beautiful little girl, and give her other siblings. And she knew that Tyler wanted another child, a son. Growing up with just her father and grandfather had been a blessing to Valarie, but she had always wanted siblings, and wondered what it would have been like to grow up with other people in the house, people her age. She wanted a big family, and she decided that they would try again once Eden Grace was old enough.

And they did start trying, once Eden was only a few months old. She was a good baby, though there were still the first-time-parent jitters for both of them. Val had only just turned twenty-six years old, so she was still young, and though she had always been mature for her age, she was still learning. Having taken off a few months from work, she was able to spend time with her daughter and her husband once his work day was finished. But as the months turned into years, and they were still unsuccessful in their attempts of having another child, the mariage grew strained. They were fighting all of the time, and it was starting to upset Eden Grace as she grew older. Val was upset because she couldn't seem to give Tyler another child, and it finally became too much for them in January of 2005. They decided to separate, because it was the best for their family and their child. Tyler moved out, and they split their time between Eden evenly.

Val continued to work, and when she didn't have Eden in her care, she began to go out more with her friends. It wasn't too crazy, but Val had always liked to have a good time, so they started to frequent the bar scene again. She was still only twenty-eight, and looked good for being a mother. It was at one of the bars in D.C. that one night she met Andreas Sofianos. He was Greek, gorgeous, and a ton of fun, and though she didn't fall head over heels for this man, there was definitely a strong attraction. They started to see each other rather frequently, though it didn't last very long. It was passionate, and a ton of fun, and in the end the two remained friends. Close friends, actually, and kept in touch. He was just what she had needed at the time, though.

In September of 2005, Val got asked to go to a three week long dental conference with a few of the other assistants and dentists that she worked with. She was thrilled, and it was a great opportunity, but it was in New York City, and she wasn't sure if she wanted to leave her daughter for that long. After talking it over with Tyler, whom she was still fairly friendly with, they decided it was good for Val, and that their daughter would be fine with him for three weeks. And so she left for NYC, staying in a hotel with one of her friends from work. The conference was during the day, and at night they were able to explore the city. It was one night, only a few days into the trip, that Val met Joe Rubenstein. She was, apparently, at the bar that his father owned, and he was admiring her from a far as she partied with her friends and a few new people she had met. One of his friends came over to her and pointed him out, telling her that Joe had a thing for her. Being as bold as ever, Val went right up to him and struck up a conversation, even asked him to have drinks with her afterwards.

Joe became the New York romance. Their relationship was passionate and physical while she was there, but to Val, it was only that. She still loved Tyler, and knew that there was her husband at home, but Joe was a good thing to have at the time. She grew to care about him, because he was a good person, but she knew she would be leaving, and had to leave, so why start something? She just didn't realize how deep his feelings were growing for her, and that she would wind up hurting him. She never told him where she was from, when he asked, she mentioned Boston. He didn't know she had a daughter, or that she was married, and she liked it that way. And then, at the end of the three weeks, Val was gone.

When she arrived home, Val returned back to her normal life. Back to Eden Grace, back to work, and back to Washington D.C. One night, only a little after Val had come home, Tyler was dropping off Eden, and they put her to bed. They started to talk, which eventually led to feelings, which eventually led to them in the bedroom they had shared. After their one night together, they decided to continue with their separation, and Tyler went home. They remained separated for a few more weeks until Valarie realized that she was pregnant again. It was a shock, of course, because it seemed rather quickly after her and Tyler had slept together, but Valarie was thrilled because of all that time, she was finally pregnant.

And then the fear set in. There just wasn't enough time for her to have found out that she was pregnant after the night with Tyler. And as she started to calculate, the harsh reality came to her that...maybe this child wasn't Tyler's. But before she could do anything about it, Tyler had found out from the friend that she had confided in, and he was coming back to her. He was elated, thrilled that they would have another child, and the hopes for the little boy he had always wanted. Wrapped up in the feelings of a new pregnancy and the love that she still had for her husband, Val fell right back into his arms, and they got back together.

On April 22nd, 2006 Tyler Vliet, Jr. was born. He was a beautiful little boy, and Val and Tyler fell in love with him immediately. Eden was a happy big sister, and she took to him right away. Valarie was thrilled to finally have her family back, and this wonderful new addition, but in the back of her mind, whenever she looked at him, she just knew that there was something...else. As the months went by and Tyler got bigger, she knew that there was very large part of her that knew...this was Joe's child. But he was in the past, he was in New York, and her husband was here with her. They had both admitted to dating other people while they were separated, so it wasn't like she had cheated and that it was a secret. But Tyler loved this little boy, and it seemed too right that it was his son. So...Val kept quiet.

And now the year is 2009, and Valarie just celebrated her thirty-second birthday. Still hard at work at the same dentist’s office, and still married to Tyler, both her children are started to attend school. Eden Grace had celebrated her sixth birthday in September, only days after starting her first day of first grade. Val isn't entirely full time, because Tyler is still only three years old and in daycare. She works during the daytime, until Tyler comes home, and had decided to do that until he went into full time Kindergarten in another year. She is very happy, and she wants her family to grow, though she'll always feel like there is just...a little bit missing.
